My boss referred me to Mozy for online backup of my MacBook Pro. You can store up to 2 Gig of data for absolutely free or pay $4.95 / month and store unlimited data. They also don’t charge for data transfer which is a big plus compared to some other online backup storage providers.
I signed up for the free account and downloaded their Mac client. I was setup and ready to go in about 5 minutes – very painless. The client even preloads some backup sets you might want to choose from like your iTunes, iPhoto library, Address Book, iCal, and Microsoft Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. You can then choose more folders and individual files to add to the backups.
I haven’t tried my first full backup yet as I’m about to head out the door to fly to Boston. I’m sure it will take a few hours, but the subsequent backups shouldn’t take very long since they are differentials.
If this solution works as advertised I’m sure I’ll be upgrading to the unlimited account. $4.95 seems really reasonable considering it buys me major piece of mind and allows me to access my backups no matter where I am.

Actually, it’ll probably take a couple of days (depending on how much you want to upload). But that’s just how it’ll be no matter what you use to backup you files.

Hey Ryan,
You’re right. I started the backup last night, and it became painfully obvious that it’s going to take a couple of days. I don’t know when I’m going to fit that in…
