Mafia Wars gives you the opportunity to buy “Limited Time Offers” in the form of weapons and vehicles. They cost $10,000 each and you have to add two mafia members for each one you buy. It’s very tempting to snatch up all you can get. You mean I can get a Punch Knife with 21 attack and 11 defense for only $10K? Great! Well, not really…
The problem is that eventually you CANNOT GIFT these items. There is no way to get rid of them at all. You’ll eventually start collecting more powerful weapons, but you won’t use those in fightts because these limited time offers are stuck in the way.
Here’s an example of how I could improve my combat score but can’t. I bought 23 Punch Knives when they were made available. Later, I started looting and finding Cane Knives with 18 attack and 28 defense. The problem is that Mafia Wars uses the weapon with the higher attack score – in this case, the Punch Knife. But your combat score goes up when you use weapons, armor, and vehicles with the highest COMBINED score (attack + defense). So the Cane Knife is better (46 total) than the Punch Knife (32 total), but the only way to make Mafia Wars use the Cane Knife is to get rid of the Punch Knives. Since you can’t gift those limited time offers, you’re stuck. As a result, I have 41 Cane Knives that are doing me no good whatsoever.
So learn from my mistake and don’t be overly anxious to go buy limited time offers that you can’t gift later. Be patient and wait for the good stuff.

Just so you know… the “Cane Knives” with the 28 defense are used when someone attacks you. In my loot, only the Gaff Hooks have a higher defensive value (30). Don’t believe me? Ask a stranger to attack you and report the results back to you. You’ll see.
you are truly an idiot.. when u attack someone, mafia wars combines only items with the highest attack rating. DEFENSE points are not taken into consideration for winning a fight. You could have 0 defense points and it wouldnt matter in the outcome of winning the fight you INITIATED. However, when you get attacked and are defending yourself, mafia wars combines the highest possible defense rating, while your attack rating is taken out of the equation
slim – no need to be nasty. If you’ll re-read the post, I was referring to how weapons’ combined attributes affects your combat score on the Combat Calculator at http://www.mafia-wars.info/. If you make modifications to your items so that the highest combined score items are used in fights, you will indeed see your combat score go up in that tool.
Now, whether or not that is the way to go within Mafia Wars – I dunno. But I do know that many people use (or used to use) the Combat Calculator to great success.
slim is right. In Mafia Wars when you attack someone, only the first 501 items (assuming you have 501+ mafias) with the highest attack ratings are used. When you are the one who’s receiving the attacks, the first 501 items with the highest defense rating are used. The outcome of the battle will depend on whether you have a higher attack rating as an attacker or a higher defense rating as a defender.
It is ok to buy “limited time offer” items to your heart’s content!
With more cash than sense, in my opinion it does not hurt to buy the items as I build up better items
Slim, RG, and the mafia wars cobat calculator are WRONG. When you attack, your 501 best attack weapons, armors and vehicles are used. When someone attacks you, your 501 best defense weapons, armors and vehicles are used.
Unfortunately, the combat calculator only factors the weapons used when attacking, not defending. If you don’t believe me, compare the defense combat score to the defense score on your profile…it will be considerably lower.
You can buy limited items, but I found they’re best to players starting out. Once you can loot better items, it makes no sense.
Idea of an idiot… he doesn’t know the best attack items are used while u attack and the best defense items are used when someone attack.. go observe the game again..

Looks like using the combat calculator as my exclusive source for how well I was equipped was a very bad idea. Oh well – it happens.
You’re right Trey, they’re wrong!
Yes MW chooses the 501 best attack weapons you have but it then adds the attack/defense of each weapon. So, if you have a weapon with 20.att and 20.def that would be a better choice over a weapon with 30.att and 5.def.
Even tho’ MW would choose the 30/5 as your top weapon of attack.
It’s an easy mistake to make, if you’ve not done your research!

teleprompter first paragraph explanation is correct..i know because i have 3 different fb mafia wars profiles and keep experimenting with them.
dont worry, it wont hurt to buy those limited items..it just makes no sense..
Like others have said, you can get ltd edition til your hearts contents. At no time can your attack or defence strength go down because of any items you win or buy. the only reason you can have negative effects from buying items is because of the job bribe penalty, and thats only cuba and NY now and the bribes arent affected by bonus items, as far as i’m aware. and to any lower level players i would reccomend getting rebel snipers from cuba, as they are quite good stats but mainly because you can BUY them, there are many better items but you can only get those items from looting.
I find it incredible that a noob knows more than obviously more experienced players. But he is still an idiot because he is giving a secret away!!!!!
