Left 4 Dead Zombie Genocide Achievement 10

Posted by Trey Connell on January 07, 2009

I love the Achievements in Xbox 360 games.  I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m an “Achievement Whore”, but there’s something tingly about having that little achievement message flash up on-screen when you complete one.

I’ve been playing Left 4 Dead after my wife bought it for me for Christmas.  I’ve spent a fair amount of time playing co-op with some buddies of mine, and it feels like I’ve killed a million zombies so far.  One good run with the automatic machine gun and you think you’ve killed hundreds in about 30 seconds.  As I look at my progress in the game, I see that is very much not the case.

My total is 1,807.  In order to get the Zombie Genocide Achievement, you have to kill 53,595.  Holy crap – only 51,788 zombies to go. It’s a good thing I really love this game because that’s going to take a very, very long time.

Does it seem like some of the achievements in games - such as the Left 4 Dead Zombie Genocide Achievement - are a little over the top?

Heh, Im at 10,984 and Ive pretty much given up. On a side note, 54.5k isnt too over the top- just look at Gears of War 2′s Seriously 2.0 achievement.

    Hi!
I just gone mine last night..
It took me about 4 months to get it!
    =-)
Now I am only missing 2 Achievements.

@Alex – You’re right about the Seriously 2.0 Achievement. That’s the most over the top achievement I’ve seen I think.

@Christian – Congrats! I’m not even halfway there yet. I’ve been playing so many other games that I haven’t made it back to Left 4 Dead to continue working on the achievement.

I’m sickened that anyone says that’s “over the top.” I’ve 100%’ed Left 4 Dead (Pre crash course update) and this was by far my favorite achievement to get. I got it back in December it was so easy. It’s such a simple achievement, all you need to do is: Play the game. How hard can that be? I forgot people who play Left 4 Dead don’t like a challenge, you all exploit for every achievement you can. I can proudly say I didn’t use a single exploit to 100% the game on PC, and because Valve is so…awesome. They wiped my “What Are You Trying To Prove” at least twice, forcing me and my friends to get the achievement 3 times. I had fun every single time (Except when I had to play Blood Harvest. That campaign makes me angry.) The fact that there’s an achievement that requires you to play the game a bit, and you’re complaining is insane. I average 1000 zombie kills per expert campaign. That’s about 54 expert campaigns, give or take. I’ve played at least a couple hundred. My only complaint is that the achievement is too EASY. 53,595? I’ve got a couple hundred thousand under my belt and I have LESS than my main teammate. I just wish the achievement would keep counting how many zombies you’ve killed after, or Valve had a tracker for zombie kills that works. The one in the steam community clearly doesn’t, I know for a fact my minigun accuracy isn’t 100% and my hunting rifle may be my primary weapon, but I don’t have over 200% headshots with it. This is all besides the point, 57% of you said this was “over the top”. How about you play the game and just have fun? It’s not that hard an achievement. I was going to reference “Seriously 2.0″ but I noticed someone else already did. Go complain about 100,000 kills in Gears 2. Half of that in a game where there’s literally 50 enemies on screen at times, you cannot complain. Grow a pair, grab your gun, and shoot some zombies already!

I’m at about 22,000 now. What I usually do is go to the 2nd chapter of Dead Air on Expert mode, kill the other three survivors, run out side, shoot some zombies, come back in, get the “[Incoming Attack]” message (I play with full captions. It helps… A LOT), and wait till every single zombie is at the safe house door, and just pump all of the lead into their thick skulls! It works everytime, and I usually get about 40sumthin zombies everytime I go through the cycle.

lol many of the remarks folks make make me laugh, routinely i wonder if they in truth read the article content and reports before writing a comment or whether or not they take a moment to read the subject of the blog post and generate the very first thought that comes to mind. at any rate, it is really nice to browse through smart commentary now and then instead of the exact same, outdated oppinion vomit that i quite often see on the web i’m off to play a few rounds of facebook poker have a pleasant day

Sure it’s over the top, that’s why they do them lol. Achievements like that give the games long-term goals for hardcore fans :) That’s why for hardcore fans it’s not over the top. I actually got my 53g in the first week of playing, I have all of my achievements for both games on Xbox 360, lol. The thing is, there’s easy glitches to get most of the achievements :P I got mine at a Saferoom door, holding a health kit, and I rubber banded my left trigger down and went to sleep, after 3 nights of doing that, I had my achievement, lol

Actually in my opinion the game is pretty fun, I got it around christmas, got more then half the achievements within christmas break. Then had to all together stop playing because school is more important, didn’t start till like this summer, which was estimated 2 or 3 weeks ago, and I have all but to kill 53,595 zombies. So within these few weeks, i’ve gotten my self from eh maybe 2,000 to 30,003, just right now since I stopped. Anyways I don’t think it’s that hard, I just do the no mercy one over and over since it’s my favorite, and then I run ahead and kill zombies, and get all the survivors in the safe room, and close the door, like in the first level because you can alert the horde, which I do a lot, then all those extra kills go to you, also the kills you get on survival mode count towards that 53,595 kills that you need.

It’s not over the top at all. It’s an achievement. In real life is it considered a real achievement to graduate high-school? Only by those who’s families are full of drop-outs. Is it an achievement to get a job as a fast-food slave? No. Achievements are meant to mark outstanding game preformance, like scoring a headshot on a leaping hunter. That’s hard. Genocide shows your commitment to the game.

“Achievements are meant to mark outstanding game preformance, like scoring a headshot on a leaping hunter”
Actually I got that achievement by accident (Blindfiring into a group of zombies) lol
