Microsoft and Bioware team up to create what could contend as the RPG of the year. 200 years into the future a Rouge Agent has put the galacic universe in jeoprady of annihilation. Commander Shepord, the first human specture, and his squadren travel the universe step by step getting closer to save the lives of millions or allowing utter chaos.

The world in Mass Effect is mind blowing. It seems as though every leaf or blade of grass was individually structured to match it’s environment. The graphics not only look good, but have some of the best voice over animations yet. The characters each have their own personality to take a liking to, and the attack visuals never get old to look at.

Mass Effect is it’s own new kind of RPG. It combines fast pace button mashing with the old style of slow RPG. You can adapt the game to your style of play; whether it would be run-and-gun or strategy based. The controls are easy to get used to and feel smooth. Hold the right Bumper for biotic powers and left bumper for weapons. The rest of the buttons are similiar to almost any other RPG. The only dispute with the controls is when selecting a gun or power, the game pauses. This can slow down the heat of battle, but it can also give some time to think and stratigize.

The amount of weapon selection in this game is ridiculus. You could play through the entire game without seeing the same weapon twice. The guns feel powerful and can each be significantly upgraded for your unique use of destruction. Along with the weapons are the game’s version of a “magic”; biotic powers. All biotic powers are well thought out and give you plenty of ways to find enjoyment out of killing everything you can get your hands onto.

As for the story itself, it is immense and each sentence for each main quest or subplot is worth listening to. All the ideas are thought out and never feels like something was “slapped-together” just to fill the game. You can do any one of Mass Effect’s quests at anytime you like; giving lots of options. However, it often times feels like you are doing “set levels” instead of exploring the world and doing quests. Although this makes the game realy boring to just explore the world, it’s storyline, characters, and player customability give more than enough reason to play this game at least twice. This game defined the years 07-08.
