Mafia Wars “What else you got?” Achievement 2

Posted by Trey Connell on August 10, 2009

Well, it seemed like it took a lifetime, but I finally got the”What else you got?” achievement for completing all the job tiers in New York. I can finally call myself a “Master Boss”. Not sure if it means much on a resume, but I’m going to brag about it anyway!

Mafia Wars Consumables 2

Posted by Trey Connell on July 18, 2009

Consumables are items that are spent every time you do a particular job. Things like computer setups, illegal transaction records, and blackmail photos are all needed in order to do various jobs. You either have to spend your energy doing other jobs in order to gain these consumables or beg your mafia family to give you their extra.

One of my mafia members put together a list of consumables, where they’re needed, and ultimately how many you’ll need.

BLACKMAIL PHOTOS 403
35 needed on Consigliere levels
184 needed on Boss levels for “Buy off Fed Agent”
184 needed on Boss levels for “Blackmail DA”

UNTRACEABLE CELL PHONES: 306
25 needed on Capo levels for “Flip A Snitch”
62 needed on Capo levels for “Dodge FBI trail”
35 needed on Consig levels for “Ransom kids”
184 needed on Underboss levels for “Order a hit”

ILLEGAL TRANSACTION RECORDS: 424
52 needed on Consig levels for “Fix the big game”
184 needed on Underboss levels for “Extort Corrupt Judge”
79 needed on Underboss levels for “Embezzle Funds”
109 needed on Boss levels for “Shake Down”

COMPUTER SET UP: 263
79 needed on Underboss levels for “Embezzle funds”
184 needed on Underboss levels for “Take over ID theft” (Enforcer)

Mafia Wars Strategy for Replacing Weak Loot 1

Posted by Trey Connell on July 07, 2009

mafia-warsI’ve been playing Mafia Wars on facebook for about a month and a half now and really like it. Fortunately I have a good friend who really thinks through Mafia Wars strategy a lot, and he recently gave me some great information. He pointed out to me that unless you get rid of some loot you don’t want to fight with, you may NOT be fighting with more powerful weapons, armor, and vehicles that you have.

Here’s an example of why getting rid of stuff is important. Use the Combat Calculator to analyze the results of a fight.

You’ll see something like this:

7 Hu-9 Helicopters [36,27]
20 Chucho FAVs [25,20]
23 Mara Serpientes [24,18]
60 Uncle Motts’ Cargo Trucks [22,14]
14 Police Cruisers [22,28]
184 Commercial Helicopters [18,26]
18 Ocelot Armored Trucks [18,28]
43 Armored Limousines [16,36]

Total Equipment: 62895

Here’s what it is now, after some loot has dropped:

9 Hu-9 Helicopters [36,27]
21 Chucho FAVs [25,20]
23 Mara Serpientes [24,18]
60 Uncle Motts’ Cargo Trucks [22,14]
14 Police Cruisers [22,28]
184 Commercial Helicopters [18,26]
18 Ocelot Armored Trucks [18,28]
40 Armored Limousines [16,36]

Total Equipment: 62910

Where’d my Limos go? They have a total of 52. If you notice, I picked up a Chucho (45) and 2 Hu-9s (63). Those are making up the 3 lost Limo’s. They are both being chosen before a Limo because the attack scores are hight (25 and 36 beat 16). BUT, based on all I know, it’s the total att+def that really matters for your combat score, which is what matters when it comes to beating people. Now, let’s get rid of a Chucho and see what happens. I should end up having 41 Limo’s. Of course, I want to keep my Hu-9s, since those are valid Limo replacements.

(momentarily get gift off Chucho, fight and re-do CC)

9 Hu-9 Helicopters [36,27]
20 Chucho FAVs [25,20]
23 Mara Serpientes [24,18]
60 Uncle Motts’ Cargo Trucks [22,14]
14 Police Cruisers [22,28]
184 Commercial Helicopters [18,26]
18 Ocelot Armored Trucks [18,28]
41 Armored Limousines [16,36]

Total Equipment: 62917

Booyah…. got a limo back and my Total Equipment went up 7, the difference between the Limo and Chucho.

So, look at what you have and what you are NOT using that you should be. You probably have replacements for things like Napalm, RPGs (aside the 1 you need for Boss jobs), Fat Boys, Bookie Pistols, 911s, etc… dump them. Experiment and do a few at a time, and you’ll see. Even buying the stuff in Cuba (Commercial Helicopters, Wise Guys) is better than some of the things you’re probably using.

Take that LSU Tigers!

Posted by Trey Connell on December 02, 2008

For the second year in a row, the Arkansas Razorbacks defeated the LSU Tigers.  This time we did it at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.  Some friends and I went to see the game, and it was a good time.  We didn’t look too hot going into the fourth quarter but mounted a massive comeback.

We were sitting in the corner of the end zone right in front of London Crawford’s game winning catch.  Way to go Hogs!

Notre Dame USC Game 2008

Notre Dame Caps Season with HUGE Loss to USC

Last weekend Notre Dame suffered an embarrassing loss to lowly 2 – 8 Syracuse.  Yesterday they followed up that stunning performance with a 38 to 3 loss to the USC Trojans.  I never expected Notre Dame to win that game, but the completely and utter inability of the Fighting Irish to even compete is shocking.  USC looked like they were playing a high school team.  It was total domination.  In fact, Notre Dame did not gain a single FIRST DOWN until the end of the third quarter.  Ridiculous.

One interesting thing to note that I didn’t know until yesterday.  Notre Dame’s schedule ranks 107th in the nation in terms of difficulty.  Translation – it’s the easiest schedule I’ve ever seen Notre Dame have.  If there was ever a year for Notre Dame to do better than 6 – 6, it was this year.  On top of that, the Irish could have easily had a losing season.  Hell, Navy almost came back to beat them, and they were down 20 points.

It’s time for a serious reevaluation here, folks.  Or maybe it’s time for me to reevaluate my expectations for Notre Dame football.  I know their academic standards are right up there with Ivy League schools, but I expect them to at least be competitive with the likes of USC and completely roll over a team like Syracuse.

Notre Dame, Syracuse and Charlie Weis

Posted by Trey Connell on November 23, 2008

Notre Dame fans have not been exactly happy this season, but compared to last year we were able to at least take the bags off our heads.  Then Notre Dame had to go and crush us at the end of the season by losing to the Syracuse Orangemen 24 to 23.

Syracuse?  Really?  The same Syracuse who had only won 2 games and just announced they were firing their head coach?

I’ve been resisting the urge to jump on the “Charlie must go” bandwagon for a long time now, but this is ridiculous.  There is absolutely no excuse for what happened yesterday.  It’s time to put the big contract and superstar offensive playcaller picture of Charlie Weis behind us and move on.  Notre Dame fired Bob Davie and Tyrone Willingham, and their records were almost identical.  It’s becoming very obvious to me that the Fighting Irish were a decent team during Weis’ first two years only due to the sheer talent on the team – not due to the amazing game plan and strategy put together by the Coach.

After the loss to Syracuse, Charlie Weis said he was sick to his stomach for the seniors.  While I appreciate that he hates his seniors had to end their Notre Dame career with a ridiculously embarassing loss at home, Weis better start worrying about his job.  Maybe it’s time to go back to the NFL.

Should Charlie Weis be Fired after the Loss to Syracuse?

“Meet Emily” – Demo Video by Image Metrics

Posted by Trey Connell on October 31, 2008

I read about this in the latest edition of Game Informer magazine. This is some seriously crazy-good animation. Be sure to watch it all the way through. And yes -- Emily is a real person, but the one you see is computer generated.

Arkansas loses to Ole Miss in a Nail Biter

Posted by Trey Connell on October 30, 2008

I went to see the Arkansas Razorbacks host the Ole Miss Rebels in Fayetteville, AR this past weekend. The game was former Razorback’s head coach Houston Nutt’s first return to his old stomping ground, and the fans were anything but gracious. The mood was hostile from the start with the masses booing Nutt and his team at every turn. It got to the point where I actually felt sorry for Coach Nutt and his players.

As anyone who follows the Razorbacks knows, our team is less than stellar this year. Not surprisingly, we found ourselves behind by 9 points with only a few minutes left in the fourth quarter. Arkansas managed to cut the deficit to two points with just over a minute left and then successfully pulled off an onside kick that gave the Razorbacks the ball back. Quarterback Casey Dick then hit London Crawford for a long pass down to the 20 yard line of Ole Miss.  The stadium erupted -- knowing all we had to do was kick a field goal and we would come away with the victory. But….flag on the play…

Crawford was called for OFFENSIVE pass interference.  Here’s the video:

Now, I realize there was an ever so slight pushoff from Crawford there, but c’mon! I hate it when games are decided by referees, and honestly I expect the Razorbacks to get a no call there when they’re playing at HOME. The call was legit, but it sure is a crappy way for a game to end.

We hung around after the end of the game for a bit and sure enough a skirmish broke out between an Arkansan and what appeared to be an Ole Miss assistant coach or some other staff member on the field. The cops quickly subdued and cuffed the guy from Arkansas and made him stand to the side until all players and personnel from Ole Miss had left for the locker room. Pretty sad stuff if you ask me. It’s just a football game people.

Here are some photos I took at the game:
